Muscles of the Neck and Throat
To get to the muscles of the neck and throat, use your blunt probe to break the many layers of connective tissue covering the neck area. One you break through, you will be able to see not only the neck and throat muscles but many of the glands involved in the endocrine system.
Sternohyoideus
Originates from the sternum. Inserts on the hyoid bone. This muscle depresses the hyoid bone. In acts in speech and swallowing movements.
Sternothyroideus
Originates from the manubrium. Inserts on thyroid cartilage. This muscle depresses the thyroid cartilage.
Sternomastoideus
Originates from the sternum. Inserts on the mastoid process on either side of the head. This muscle flexes the head to the chest and inclines it to one side or the other.
