Large Intestine
The large intestine is clearly visible when the abdominal cavity is opened up. It's the thicker of the intestines.
- Cecum - connects the illeum of the small intestine to the ascending colon of the large intestine
- Ileocecal valve - at the junction of the small intestine and the large intestine
- Transverse colon - largest part of the large intestine, moves across the abdomen
- Descending colon - passes downward, along the lateral border with the left kidney
- Sigmoid colon - part of the large intestine closest to the rectum and anus
- Rectum - the final straight portion of the large intestine
- Anus (see "Anus" page) - the opening at the other end of the digestive tract from the mouth
